Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
An important political figure commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
